Hi, I’m Jad (sometimes I refer to myself online as Dayj)
I’m a senior multidisciplinary designer, content strategist, and full-time creative geek. For the past 15+ years, I’ve been living at the intersection of design, technology, and storytelling, moving fluidly between the physical world of print and the fast-paced world of digital experiences.
The Constant Jump: From Consumer to Creator
Since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with two things: what other people are creating, and what I can create myself.
My life has always been a continuous loop between a "consumption phase" and a "creation phase." I used to pause a cartoon on a frame just to sketch it in my sketchbook, but then I’d immediately pivot to inventing my own characters. I would obsessively listen to my favorite songs, and then sit down to write and compose my own. I watched my favorite shows, then grabbed a camera to shoot my own comedy skits. I played story-driven video games, and then spent hours writing my own narratives and attempting to animate them.
That fundamental drive to not just watch the world, but to figure out how it was built and then build my own version of it, is exactly what led me into design.
The Journey So Far
When my professional career kicked off, I brought that exact same creative curiosity with me. I spent a decade working at a fast-paced shopper marketing agency, where I mastered the art of visual communication across massive physical print runs, branding, and motion design. I learned how to make brands stand out in crowded, competitive physical spaces, and how to use motion to tell a story in seconds.
Eventually, my journey brought me to Toronto, where I continue to push boundaries by blending strategic design with digital content creation.
Building for the Screen (and the Community)
I’ve always believed that the best way to understand a medium is to create for it. That mindset is what drove me to launch 2-Minute Design, a YouTube channel dedicated to cutting-edge, fun, and ultra-efficient design tutorials. Today, that community has grown to over 53,000 subscribers and 10 million views. Teaching design forces you to truly master it, and building that audience taught me exactly how to capture attention in a digital-first world.
But I didn't stop at tutorials. Fueled by that lifelong love for motion and storytelling, I took on the ultimate creative challenge of building my own animated cartoon show from scratch, writing, designing, and producing 2 full seasons spanning 10 episodes.
Why I Love the Shift
While a lot of professionals dread it when a major software platform changes its UI, moves a key feature, or completely shifts its workflow, I’m the exact opposite. I get genuinely excited about updates. Instead of getting frustrated, I love diving into the "new way" of doing things and dissecting the why behind the change. What problem were the developers trying to solve? How does this optimize the creative process?
That curiosity keeps me perpetually forward-facing. I’m always hunting for the next great tool, whether it’s an emerging software trying to out-compete the industry giants or the latest AI feature that can completely supercharge a workflow.
What I Bring to the Table
Whether I’m working with a marketing team, keyframing an animation, or scripting a new video, my goal is always the same: I want to make something that stays with people. It’s not just about creating a functional product, or making a frame look pretty. It’s about ensuring there is a real, honest piece of storytelling running underneath it all, because at the end of the day, that’s the only part people actually remember.
When I’m not pushing pixels in Photoshop, After Effects, or Figma, you can usually find me hanging out with my family, watching tech YouTubers and the latest keynote presentations, or sipping on a hot cup of Yerba Mate with my amazing wife.
